First Asssessment of the AJS K7


As soon as I got the bike home, the first job was to make an assessment of what needed to be done. I split restoration projects broadly into “Engine”, “Gearbox” and “Chassis” sub-projects and the engine obviously needed major attention. I also look for what are likely to be the most difficult parts of each sub-project and tackle those first. I have seen plenty of “For Sale” projects that have a beautifully painted tank and a powder coated frame …with the crankcases split into 5 pieces! The easier bits can wait.

Looking at the timing-side, below, there is clearly some remedial work to be done.


 
And the picture below, taken of my R10 camshaft drive, shows what this should look like.
